I wish women understood their power here. Not just
here, everywhere. If women truly realized how powerful they are united, they
would be unstoppable. When I asked my mama about her biscuit selling business
and how she came up with the idea she said , “I come here and my husband
doesn’t have a job and I have a family so I sit here and I think, ‘What can I
do?’” Now that’s an amazing woman. Supporting her entire family off her
biscuits that she gets up every day at 1AM to make. She sells each for 1 rand.
Less than a US penny.
Women here sweep the dirt off the ground in front of
their homes with little stick brooms. To some it might seem pointless but I
understand now it is a sense of pride. It’s so interesting to me. It has been
my experience that women everywhere say, “Oh sorry, don’t mind the mess,” no
matter how messy or clean their house is.
